Windstorm Xynthia in 2010 cost the French insurance sector € 1.5 billion, the floods of 2007 in the UK cost private insurers £ 3 billion and the floods in Germany in 2013 cost the German government upwards of € 8 billion. All European countries are impacted by extreme weather phenomena, and their natural disaster compensation systems differ.

We finish this newsletter with a focus on the latest Nat Cat news, the launch of a CCR award for research in the field of natural disasters and the probability of the occurrence of the El Niño phenomenon between now and the end of the year.

Grâce au régime d'indemnisation des catastrophes naturelles, basé sur la solidarité, la grande majorité des Français bénéficie d'une couverture contre les catastrophes naturelles à un coût abordable. Bien que ce régime ait prouvé son efficacité, il est aujourd'hui confronté aux défis posés par le changement climatique et doit évoluer pour rester efficace. En ce qui concerne la sinistralité, l’année 2023 a été marquée par plusieurs événements significatifs, et pour la 7ème fois en 8 ans, CCR a dû puiser dans ses réserves.
