CCR Group sponsors Energy Observer
11/21/2017
The CCR Group has made a three-year commitment with Energy Observer to support Odyssey for the Future 2017-2022. The sponsorship agreement was signed yesterday in the French Mediterranean port of La Seyne-sur-Mer where the vessel is making call.
The crew of the Energy Observer has addressed the technological challenge of developing the world’s first self-sufficient sea vessel with zero greenhouse gas and fine particle emissions thanks to a never-before-used combination of renewable energies and hydrogen. With this challenge comes the human adventure of sailing around the world to display these innovative solutions to climate change, in particular, and to prove that a cleaner world is possible.
This challenge reflects CCR’s economic and scientific ambition as a public reinsurer of providing comprehensive access to insurance coverage against natural risks and of furthering the study of climate change thanks to its cutting-edge technical expertise and extensive fieldwork experience. Resultantly, CCR actively participates in the prevention of climate risks in a manner that is as concrete as it is ambitious.
Pierre Blayau, Chairman of CCR, stated: “We are very pleased to support the Odyssey of Energy Observer because, beyond remedying the consequences of climate change, we are required to invent and disseminate concrete solutions that limit its magnitude. In this regard, the adventure initiated by Victorien Erussard and Jérôme Delafosse underscores and is a prime example of France’s know-how in this area”.
Victorien Erussard, President and Captain of Energy Observer, announced: “All our team is proud to welcome the CCR Group aboard for the Odyssey for the Future. As Energy Observer’s primary sponsor, CCR will help us develop our message to the general public we welcome at each stop. Over 100,000 people have come out to see the ship since we began our Tour de France! CCR’s special areas of business, the assessment and reinsurance of natural disaster risks, remind us of the challenges posed by ecological transition. The analytical tools designed by CCR illustrate the advanced technology it has developed to understand and better respect our environment. Its sponsorship is squarely in line with our missions.”
About the CCR Group
CCR is a reinsurance group wholly-owned by the State of France and ranks among the top 25 players in international reinsurance. Through the Natural Disaster compensation scheme backed by the State’s guarantee and working in the general interest, it provides the French market with coverage against natural disasters and other exceptional risks. Since January 1, 2017, its subsidiary, CCR Re, operates in the Life, Non-Life and Specialty Lines in France and in sixty countries worldwide.
In conformity with the Natural Disaster compensation scheme established in France in 1982, CCR is accredited to provide, upon the request of the insurer, State-guaranteed unlimited reinsurance coverage against natural disasters arising in France. In this manner, all insureds - private persons, businesses, local municipalities - can benefit from coverage against these risks despite their level of exposure. Thanks to the concerted action of insurers and CCR, the scheme also guarantees quick and certain compensation of incurred losses regardless of their scale.
About Energy Observer
Energy Observer is the world’s first self-sufficient hydrogen vessel with zero greenhouse gas and fine particle emissions. The futuristic electric propulsion vessel is powered by a combination of hydrogen and renewable energies as well as a system for producing decarbonized hydrogen from sea water. The aim of this technological and scientific initiative is to test cutting-edge technologies under extreme conditions that may serve as precursors to tomorrow’s land-based energy networks. The Energy Observer has embarked on a six-year trip around the world, the Odyssey for the Future 2017-2022. It will be visiting 50 countries with 101 ports of call along the way. The aim is to make the general public aware of the major topics of ecological transition, namely, biodiversity, mobility and the circular economy, during its stops to ports of call, through the social networks and by mean of documentation. The world tour is directed by Victorien Erussard, founder and captain, and by Jérôme Delafosse, expedition leader and documentary filmmaker.
