Although France has not been recently struck by an earthquake of destructive force, the country is however exposed to seismic risk. In order to be better prepared, we must look back to the past. Jérôme Lambert, an expert on historical seismicity, explains the history of the most destructive earthquakes that have struck France.

How is Nice preparing for the next major earthquake?

Seismologists have learned that, over a period of a thousand years, one highly destructive earthquake and four earthquakes causing serious damage have occurred in France each century. Although impossible to predict, a major earthquake could occur close to a large city like Nice. What would be the consequences to the population and the economy and how are people preparing for the next quake?
