Marine submersions: new challenges, new legal practices

In an effort to encourage research in the area of knowledge of natural disaster risks as well as the application of such knowledge to insurance and to risk prevention, CCR created the Outstanding Thesis Award.

has decided to attribute the award to Vanessa Mulot for her thesis: "Marine submersions: new challenges, new legal practices".

The jury was particularly appreciative of the clear and comprehensive work that examined the new challenges and legal practices associated with marine subversions and opened the debate on solidarity, prevention and responsibility.

Doctor of law Vanessa Mulot supported her thesis entitled "Marine submersions: new challenges, new legal practices" in March 2015. The research work concerns legal and insurance-related resources currently available or to be developed that enable a reduction of the level of vulnerability of property and of human activities to marine submersions, in a context of rising sea levels.
The thesis was conducted at the university of law and political science in Aix-en-Provence (Aix-Marseille Université III) with the financial support of the AXA Research Fund.
In 2008, Vanessa Mulot obtained a Master I degree in "Wealth Management and Consulting" and in 2009 a Master II in "Environmental Law". Throughout her five-year tenure at Paul Cézanne University, she studied the legal aspects relating to the environment and climate change. She wrote a memoir on the issue of law and marine submersion. This research has provided a stimulus for her interest in coastal risks and the challenges they pose.
Today, at the School of Lawyers of Southwest France, she also works as a consultant on coastal risk matters.

A cash prize of € 5,000 as well as a diploma were awarded to Ms. Lambert, her thesis supervisor, on June 30, 2016 at the time of the 7th CCR "CAT Day".
